Sustainable Packaging
February 2024 – Sustainable Packaging is a type of packaging that is easily recyclable and manufactured with minimal environmental impact such as reduced pollution, carbon emissions and energy consumption. Sustainable packaging offers many benefits, including reduced resource and energy costs, increased revenue, reduced environmental impacts, and climate change mitigation. However, there are challenges to the implementation, such as high initial cost, compatibility issues with some products, and lack of consumer awareness. In 2019, SoScience, a social enterprise specializing in responsible research and innovation, partnered with Perrier, a water brand company, to launch “the future of positive packaging” a program aiming to foster collaboration in packaging research and align activities with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program directly supports SDG12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
