Solid Waste Management
January 2024 – Solid Waste Management (SWM) is the process of collecting, treating, and disposing of solid waste in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner. The most common SWM methods include landfilling, incineration, composting, and recycling. Sustainable solid waste management process includes four stages: collection, sorting and segregation, recycling and recovery, and final disposal in a landfill. In 1992, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) International Environmental Technology Center (IETC) was established to support the implementation of proper solid waste management systems in countries around the world.
