Smart Farming

January 2024 – Smart Farming, or smart agriculture, is a modern approach to farming that utilizes Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to enhance productivity, reduce cost, increase revenue, minimize the environmental impact, and enhance sustainability. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the driving force behind smart farming integrating machines to make farming processes data-driven and automated. There are many advantages to smart farming such as increased production, decreased waste, emission reduction, fertilizer reduction, and new job creation. However, there are challenges such as poor connectivity, lack of digital talent, and the high cost of cutting-edge equipment. In 2019, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) launched the Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) aiming to increase productivity, build resilience to climate change, and reduce emissions.

In this slideshow, you will learn about the definition, technologies, applications, stakeholders, advantages, challenges, UN policy, and global statistics of smart agriculture and farming.
