Electronic Waste
(E-Waste)
January 2024 – Electronic Waste (E-Waste) is the discarded electronics generated by the Industry or by consumers. Humans have become increasingly dependent on electronic devices, such as computers, household appliances, medical devices, and televisions. Once these devices are discarded, they create a significant waste stream, a portion of which contains materials that are hazardous to human health and the environment. Some of it is recovered for recycling; most ends up in landfills. Proper management of electric waste can help alleviate the negative health and environmental impacts, as well as conserve scarce and valuable raw materials used to produce new electronic devices. In 2018, seven UN agencies signed a letter of intent to enhance cooperation in the field of e-waste management.
