Green Building
January 2024 – Green Building (GB), or sustainable building, is the practice of creating structures using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout the building life cycle: design, construction, operation, maintenance, and demolition. Green building goals are to maximize efficiency, minimize resource consumption, protect health and safety, improve productivity, and reduce the environmental impact. There are many benefits to green building such as government incentives, new job opportunities, and pollution reduction. However, there are challenges such as the high initial cost, lack of public awareness, and lack of green building expertise. In 2006, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) launched the Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative (SBCI) to promote sustainable building practices around the world.
